Tis the season of Ghouls
This October is already a huge month for the TOKYO GHOUL series. The live-action film produced by Shochiku is scheduled to be released in select U.S. theaters from October 16 to 21. The film stars Masataka Kubota as the manga’s titular character, Ken Kaneki, and also features Fumika Shimizu (KAMEN RIDER FOURZE), Yu Aoi (HONEY AND CLOVER), and Yo Oizumi (KAKEKOMI). The film is already being hailed as one of the best live-action adaptations of all time.
Written by Sui Ishida, TOKYO GHOUL is one of Japan’s best-selling manga serializations by Weekly Young Jump. The story takes place in an alternate-world where flesh-eating creatures known as ghouls are at the top of the food chain. Ken Kaneki, the story’s main character, is a quiet college student in Tokyo. He’s a simple person who loves to read and hang out with his best friend Hideyoshi. But a dinner date with the mysterious Rize leaves Ken Kaneki fighting for his life. Doctors implant ghoul organs to keep him alive, but at what cost? Now with a taste for human flesh, Ken struggles to maintain his humanity. All the while, a government agency known as the Commission of Counter Ghoul lurks in the distance.
